Open Letter to the Toronto Star, other media outlets and the Honourable Prime Minister of Canada1/20/2011 Today, Thursday Jan. 20th, 2011, the Toronto Star headlined "Canadian Held on Terror Charges".
The alleged terrorist from Edmonton is wanted by FBI, which was the reason for his arrest the day before and he is awaiting an extradition hearing! Now... the question then is: why don’t the Toronto Star, other media outlets and the Honourable Prime Minister of Canada, ask the government of the U.S. to extradite Luis Posada Carriles to Venezuela, and/or choose the alternative of putting him on trial for the numerous terrorist acts he carried out throughout this hemisphere and, in particular, against Cuba? Very much relevant is the fact that Fabio Di Celmo, a permanent resident of Montreal, was murdered in 1997 in the bombing of the Copacabana hotel in Havana. Posada Carriles designed, organized, led and financed this terrorist attack, to which he self-confessed in a 1998 New York Times interview where he stated: “I sleep like a baby.” Why is there such a double standard in the fight against terrorism?! Approximately one million people, from across Canada, enjoy their vacations each year in the safe environment offered by peaceful Cuba, resulting from the country’s efforts against terrorism. So why does Canada’s government refuse to demand of its ally that it make Luis Posada Carriles, this notorious Osama Bin Laden of the Americas, face justice for his crimes? Declassified documents abound, proving that Posada is a monstrous, convicted, self-confessed terrorist who enjoys his freedom with total impunity in the U.S., with the U.S. government’s full knowledge of his crimes. Shouldn’t the government of Canada work with Cuba and with other nations that want Posada brought to justice, in light of Public Safety Minister Vic Toews’ comment stating that: "Ottawa is working very closely with other governments that are fighting terrorism”, or that: “We face the same threats and share the same concerns."? Then, once again, the question is: why doesn’t the Prime Minister seek justice for the death of Fabio Di Celmo? Justice shall and will prevail soon and it will put to shame those who don't want to make U.S.-based terrorists, such as Posada Carriles, pay for the crimes. To make matters worse, in 1998, Ottawa's ally incarcerated five Cubans for the crime of exposing terrorists like Posada Carriles, after they had gone to the United States in the 1990's in order to prevent terrorist acts launched from U.S. soil against their nation. The admitted terrorist has to face justice! Now more than ever, the ball is in the court of those claiming that they want to fight terrorism, but who don't even raise their voices against Posada's insatiable desire to kill and maim. Meanwhile, the heroic example of the Cuban Five, who are being kept behind bars for fighting terrorism carried out against their people and against others like Fabio Di Celmo, speaks volumes about the honour and integrity of their character. There’s no need to bother you with the absurdity of the court hearing going on in El Paso, Texas, considering the fact that Posada is on trial for having lied to immigration officers upon entering the U.S. illegally in 2005 instead of being questioned or charged for his terrorist career. What blatant hypocrisy in the war against terrorism! Let’s see how the investigative reporters will follow up and how the government will respond.
