Once again the U.S. government's attempt to disrupt Cuban society, this time by using "Smart Mobs", failed. It was revealed that the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) set up a shell company in Spain, channelled funds through the Cayman Islands and paid millions of dollars to CEOs operating out of Nicaragua, Spain and other countries in order to build a "Cuban Twitter". The whole operation, which took off in 2009, fell apart in 2012 due to the strength of the Cuban Revolution. To understand the history of the U.S. government’s attitude towards Cuba we shall take note of the Cuban people's 1959 decision to change their country for the betterment of the vast majority of its citizens and therewith the animosity of the neighbour to the north.
Real bombs and "Smart Bombs" have caused the loss of 3,478 lives resulting from acts of terrorism launched from U.S. territory with the complete knowledge of the U.S. government, as well as its directorship, financing and training of ultra-right violent groups mainly based in South Florida. Thousands more people have been permanently maimed. These are terrorist acts that should shake us to our bones because of their similarity to Sept. 11th, 2001, as well as other such acts including:
What is so shocking and outrageous, is that the mastermind of these terrorist acts is walking the streets of Miami a free man. His name? Luis Posada Carriles, who received training by the Central Intelligence Agency (C.I.A.) in C4 explosives and more! To understand why the U.S. government is bent on destroying the Cuban Revolution is to know that Cuba trains tens of thousands of young people of humble backgrounds from all over the world, including the U.S. and Canada, to become doctors for humanity. Or to know that Cuba's infant mortality rate is lower than Canada’s or that Cuba's medals in Olympics are much more than Canada’s per capita. These and many other achievements of the Cuban Revolution have embarrassed the imperial system and they see the little Cuban island as a challenge to their barbaric system of exploitation and aggressions. That is why the U.S. government arrested five young Cuban men in 1998 for the "crime" of preventing and exposing acts of terror planned and launched from U.S. territory. To this date, some 16 years later, three of the Cuban Five are still in U.S. prisons under the harshest of conditions because of their steel-like defense of the Cuban Revolution. Parliamentarians, labour leaders and activists, actors and artists, Nobel Prize laureates and people of all walks of lives from all the continents have joined the campaign to free All the Cuban Five but still the U.S. government continues its relentless attacks against the island, now by trying to plant "smart mobs" while denying the cry for justice. We, in Toronto Forum on Cuba, strongly condemn this recent attack on the sovereignty of the Cuban nation by the U.S. government and demand Freedom for ALL the Cuban Five instead of the use of "Smart Mobs" against a nation which wants to live in peace with justice and which has done and is doing a lot for humanity's sake with the chants of Patria es Humanidad (Homeland is Humanity).
