I urge the U.S. President, Barack Obama, to release the five Cubans imprisoned in that country, for the sake of justice.
This was expressed in a letter to Obama by the German ex-jurist Günter Belchaus, a member of the International Committee to Free the Cuban Five, identified as Antonio Guerrero, Fernando González, Gerardo Hernández, Ramón Labañino and René González. In his complaint the retired Ministerial Counsellor(*), says that Obama has in his hands the power to, in accordance with Article II, Section 2 of the Constitution of the United States, release through a pardon the Five, who by their actions prevented acts of terrorism. Once again I urge you to use that power for the sake of justice, for the good of mankind, for human rights and to justify the hopes of so many people around the world, he said. Gerardo, Ramón, Antonio, Fernando and René are five brave Cubans, they are innocent and after almost 13 years of detention are still being held unjustly in U.S. jails, he said. Also a member of the German Basta Ya committee, Belchaus ratifies to the president in his letter received by Prensa Latina that justice was done in the case of terrorist Luis Posada Carriles, who is still alive and enjoying his life in Miami as a free man, where has a safe haven. Remember that Posada Carriles was one of the authors of the criminal attack in mid air of a Cuban airliner off Barbados in 1976, in which 73 innocent people lost their lives. At the same time he denounced that the U.S. government committed an extrajudicial killing of Osama bin Laden, killed on the morning of Monday May 2 after an operation ordered by Obama and carried out by elite commandos of the Pentagon in Pakistan. The President proclaimed that justice has been done, but I would rather say that it has been an extrajudicial execution, said Belchaus. Belchaus’ initiative is part of the actions of the International Committee for a cause that, despite the support it receives in many countries, is silenced by the mainstream media, especially in the United States.
